X-Rays and Diagnostic Imaging

Canterbury Medical Imaging - CMI - General X-Ray An x-ray is a high frequency, high energy wave form. It cannot be seen with the naked eye, but can be picked up by photographic film.

THE PROCEDURE

You will need to remove any metal objects from around the area to be examined eg: for a hand x-ray you would remove your rings, watch and bracelets. You will be asked to remain still in a specific position, and often to hold your breath on command.

PREPARING FOR YOUR X-RAY

No preparation is required for a general x-ray.

YOUR RESULTS

This is dependent on the type of examination you require. Results can be obtained (for most examinations) at the time of your examination if required. This takes around 30 minutes for the images to be read, dictated and typed into a report. CMI is a fully digital x-ray facility. This means the x-ray images are no longer produced on film but are acquired digitally and reviewed by the Radiologists on large computer screens. If you would like your images either printed or put on CD to take home this can be arranged at reception.

APPOINTMENTS

At CMI we offer a ‘walk in’ service for a general x-ray. You can phone and book an appointment on 03 375 4050 or call in anytime at your convenience, with your referral form and we will accommodate you. The examination time will vary depending on the type of x-ray you require, ranging from around 10 to 30 minutes.
